Health Tracking Deep Dive
Fitbit's algorithms โ now fully integrated into Wear OS โ provide the most comprehensive health tracking on any Android smartwatch. Heart rate accuracy, measured against a chest strap ECG, showed a mean error of just 1.8bpm during intense exercise. Sleep tracking, continuous SpO2, and stress monitoring all deliver actionable insights rather than raw numbers.
The standout new feature, Loss of Pulse Detection, uses the heart rate sensor to detect cardiac arrest situations and automatically call emergency services. In Google's testing (and independent verification), the sensor detects loss of pulse within 30-40 seconds with high accuracy.
Battery Life Reality
Google claims 24 hours with always-on display enabled. In practice, with heavy workout tracking and always-on display, I averaged 21.5 hours. Disabling AOD extends this to approximately 35 hours. Neither figure competes with Garmin or Samsung, who offer 3-7 day battery life.
The included magnetic charger tops the battery from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes, which is genuinely fast. A 15-minute charge provides about 6 hours of use โ acceptable for emergency top-ups.
Display & Design
The 45mm version's 2,000 nit AMOLED display is the brightest on any Android smartwatch, making it readable in direct sunlight in ways competing watches simply aren't. The circular form factor with slim bezels continues to be one of the most elegant smartwatch designs available.
The polished aluminum case is lightweight and comfortable for all-day wear, but the glossy finish does attract scratches. After two weeks of daily wear, micro-scratches were already visible without a screen protector.
